The Park Hotel (Guoji fandian) is the oldest skyscraper in Shanghai, completed in 1934. The building has been a dominant site on the legendary Nanjing Road and the hotel remained as the tallest building of Shanghai and the symbolic building of the city for over half of a century. With more recent renovations this four star complex has lost a bit of its thirties charm, nevertheless with its good location, remaining art deco architecture and decent service this still remains one of Shanghais more interesting hotels.
The hotel is located at the very heart of Shanghai, on the legendary Nanjing Lu, right in the middle of all the bustle and hustle of this historic road. The Hongqiao International Airport is a mere 13 kms away, the railway station and harbor are only 5 kms away, whilst the famous Bund is only a 3km walk. The new Pudong Airport can be reached within 70 minutes by car or bus. The Shanghai subway has an entrance in front of the hotel and it is extremely convenient to get to most of the famous tourist attractions and commercial districts of Shanghai from here.
There are a total of 208 rooms in the Park, from standard rooms up to deluxe suites, and some of these look out upon the People's Park (Renmin gongyuan). All the rooms are comfortably equipped with central air-conditioning, a remote controlled satellite TV, express mail, IBM computer system, mini-fridge, minibar, safety deposit box, and IDD telephone.Extra facilities include a disco and nightclub, a beauty salon, a business center within the lobby and a Business club for those staying on the executive floor.
For dining the Park also provides a good selection of Western and Oriental cuisine. The best of these has to be Le Park Lounge which was one of the most famous French Restaurant in Shanghai during the 1930s and 1940s and still retains much of its charm. The other restaurant of particular interest is The Cloud Hal
