Yesterday morning the equipment malfunction condemned the trains on Guangzhou's Metro Line 3 to run much more slowly than the normal case for about three hours and a half. The ride from Shiqiao,Panyu to Kecun was even far lengthened to one hour.

The problem lasted from the first shift at 6:00 to 9:20. The shift interval was stretched to 8-13 minutes.

The short trains only have three carriages and thus could not meet the mounting passengers¡¯ demand at weekend. The interchange stations of Kecun and Tiyu Xi were very crowded. Many passengers complained.

This metro malfunction resulted from the unstable operation of system during a test running, as a metro official explained. Nowadays the line 3 is under improving test around the clock.

The General Engineer Hu Wenwei of Guangzhou Metro also said they have prepared hundreds of urgencies solutions for the unexpected, as the malfunction cases underground increased this year.
