A report on the province's public health statistics from 2002 to 2007 has been released by the Department of Health of Guangdong. In the year 2007, the average life expectancy in Guangdong rises to 75.3 years, higher than the national average 73 years.

According to the report, in the past five years, a total of 4.229 million rural residents of Guangdong join the rural medical insurance system and the fund and compensation added up to 6.121 billion RMB.

Since 2002, the increase of local residents’ expense in medical service has slowed down, thanks to the state’s and the provincial price limit policies. In 2006, the total expense dropped for the first time since 1996. And the expense in 2007 stayed the same with year 2006.
