Strong winds blow Pearl River, Guangzhou. [Guangzhou Daily]
After Lekima, the 15th tropical storm for this year’s lashing in south China with heavy rain and strong gales, another developing one named Krosa, the 16th tropical storm which formed Tuesday morning on the Pacific Ocean east of the Philippines, is strengthening into severe tropical storm during the weeklong National Day holiday period, said sources with the provincial meteorological observatory of Guangdong.
The eye of Krosa was located at 16.9 degrees north latitude and131.3 degrees east longitude, about 1,270 km southeast of Hualien city of Taiwan Province, packing maximum winds of 90 km per hour.
Krosa's eye will remain whirling at its current place and then move northwest and continue to gain momentum, according to the Central Meteorological Observatory.
Shower struck Guangzhou, accompanied with a 5th rank gust of wind, under the effect of tropical storm Krosa. Tourists to the coastal areas are warned to be on alert until tomorrow (October 5); sunshine will be back in Guangzhou again.
