For promoting the reconstruction of the old buildings and protection of historic and cultural streets in Guangzhou, residents in 16 buildings in the city’s Shamian are required to move out within one year.
According to the city government, 413 relocated households will be entitled to houses in other area for living, also subsidies and preferential policies for children’s admission to Shamian School.
Up to now, 60% of the households have moved out.
“We’ll move in Ping’an Plaza located near Liuhua Park. Our new house is over 50 square meters, which is large enough for five persons in our family,” said Ms. Dai, who has been living in Shamian for 38 years.
