The Guangdong Scientific Expedition Club announced its recruitment of a Chinese volunteer for their Antarctica expedition. In early November 2007, Li Yuyu, CEO of the club, as well as the recruited volunteer, will leave Guangzhou for Antarctica. They will join over 210 explorers from the U.S.A, Britain, Canada and China's Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan. Together, they will, on an American icebreaker, get to Antarctica. There, Chinese explorers will, for the first time, set up a public-interest advertisement and put messenger bottles into the water promoting environmental protection causes. Additonally, all the explorers will declare a program for environmental protection in Antarctica. They will return to GZ in early December.
On average, it will cost each explorer about RMB160, 000 to participate in the expedition, however the individual volunteers are not expected to pay the cost.
Too, organizers of the recruitment event have launched a campaign for solicitation and collection of the design for the public-interest advertisement for the expedition.
